چکیده

The notion of a planar st graph (also known as e-bipolar planar graph) is essentially equivalent to that of a progressive plane graph, which was introduced by Joyal and Street in the theory of graphical calculus for tensor categories. Fraysseix and Mendez have shown a bijection between equivalence classes of planar st embeddings of a directed graph G and the conjugate orders of the edge poset of G. In this paper, we reformulate Fraysseix-Mendez’s result in term of progressive graphs and planar orders and give a totally combinatorial proof in the perspective of graphical calculus. Our proof also provides a practical method to calculate the planar orders of progressive plane graphs. Moreover, we prove that any boxed planar embedding of a progressive graph is equivalent to a progressive plane graph, which is a reformulation of a result of Battista-Tamassia and Kelly.

Combinatorial characterization of upward planarity

We give a purely combinatorial characterization of upward planar graphs in terms of upward planar orders, which also applies to characterize the planarity for nondirected graphs.

The Duals of Upward Planar Graphs on Cylinders

We consider directed planar graphs with an upward planar drawing on the rolling and standing cylinders. These classes extend the upward planar graphs in the plane. Here, we address the dual graphs. Our main result is a combinatorial characterization of these sets of upward planar graphs. It basically shows that the roles of the standing and the rolling cylinders are interchanged for their duals.

Computing Optimal Embeddings for Planar Graphs

We study the problem of optimizing over the set of all combinatorial embeddings of a given planar graph. At IPCO' 99 we presented a rst characterization of the set of all possible embeddings of a given biconnected planar graph G by a system of linear inequalities. This system of linear inequalities can be constructed recursively using SPQR-trees and a new splitting operation. In general, this a...

ULD-Lattices and ∆-Bonds

We provide a characterization of upper locally distributive lattices (ULD-lattices) in terms of edge colorings of their cover graphs. In many instances where a set of combinatorial objects carries the order structure of a lattice this characterization yields a slick proof of distributivity or UL-distributivity. This is exemplified by proving a distributive lattice structure on ∆-bonds with inva...
